As a Robotics Lab and Field Support Hardware Development Engineer, you collaborate Amazon Robotics’ Manipulation team to dive into challenging technical problems to deliver Amazon’s leading-edge robotics technologies in its fulfillment and transportation networks. You operate using a unique combination of engineering know how, problem solving, curiosity, innovation, and effective communication skills. You assist the manipulation workcells and EoAT development teams, managing the team of contractors that support on-site development, operations, and maintenance of early robotic work cell deployments both in the Boston area hardware development labs and in field test locations in selected fulfillment centers. You and your contractor team operate the early systems, identify operational issues, assist with root cause investigations, implement hardware and software changes, and provide all onsite maintenance during development. You team develop and implement one-off developmental cells or test infrastructure in the Boston area HDE lab spaces. You recognize and adopt best practices in systems administration.
Key job responsibilities
The HDE Field Engineering and Development Lab Manager in the Robotics Manipulation Cell Design team will be responsible for:
• Working with interdisciplinary teams, supporting the Product Development Process, operating and testing robotic work cell designs from concept through Beta design Phase.
• Collaborating with hardware and software engineers, understanding design intent, sharing observations, recording issues, understanding planned changes, evaluating implemented changes, and communicating outcomes.
• Identifying, organizing, and executing maintenance for Alpha and Beta Manipulation workcells and End of arm Tools (EoATs)
• Hiring and managing full time and contract field support engineers who run early concept workcells located in fulfillment centers.
• Managing spare parts for local and field test work cells.
• Support hardware development team with installation and testing early concept workcells and EoAT design concepts
• Through the team, organize and maintain cleanliness of Boston based hardware engineering development work spaces
• Performing static and dynamic mechanical systems testing at Boston based hardware test lab.
• Support field certification activities
Additional activities:
• Willingness to travel 35% of the year
• Procure and organize hardware engineering workcell lab supply materials and areas
• Procure and build of prototype materials
A day in the life
Amazon offers the unique opportunity to begin field testing robotic Manipulation work cells in very early stages of development in functioning Fulfillment centers. You will be responsible for managing the Field Engineering contractor support team who are located in the targeted Fulfillment Centers as well as the System Support Engineers stationed in the Boston area. Your team facilitates onsite engineering operations and maintenance for these early units, and supports development testing labs in the Boston area. You will work directly with hardware engineers, software engineering, project management, quality, and safety teams, supporting the work cell design and delivery.
